Save Our Spruit

A call to action

Save Our Spruit(SOS)

Welcome to SOS, where we passionately advocate for community unity and environmental preservation. Our mission is to unite Resident Associations, addressing the challenges posed by displaced individuals impacting the green spaces along the Bramfontein Spruit.

Guided by unwavering commitment and anchored in our core values of Community Solidarity, Environmental Stewardship, and Inclusivity, we aim to make a lasting impact.

Join us in fostering harmony, preserving nature, and creating positive outcomes for both the public and the displaced individuals.

Together, let’s build a stronger, more resilient community.

Our Engagements

Our Collective is not about supporting one single location or initiative.  The aim is to support various hotspots in the greater Bramfontien spruit area.

We are supporting the following hotspot areas, more will come on board as we grow and get more support from the residents in the areas.

Keith Flemming Park

The Braamfontien spruit runs through Keith Flemming Park which is rapidly becoming a dump site for discarded plastic. The WastePreneurs are dumping unwanted plastic which they can not sell in the river.

This makes the area inaccessible to bird watchers, Mountain bikers and anyone who wants to go for a walk along the river.

Linden Community Policing Forum Sector 2 chairperson Annalise Tichaner estimated that there were between 30 and 50 people living in the park.”

Tana Park

We have assisted the local stakeholders in the successful submission to the City of Johannesburg for “Adopt a Park” campaign of Tana Park.

Old Parkhurst Bowling Club

Attention all stakeholders and residents of Johannesburg,

We are thrilled to announce that our collective efforts have paid off! We successfully brought together the fragmented parties involved and coordinated a highly successful petition. This petition was sent out in December last year and officially submitted to the City of Johannesburg in January 2024.

Our mandate has been fulfilled, and we couldn’t have done it without the support and cooperation of everyone involved. This achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished when we work together towards a common goal.

Thank you to all who contributed to this important cause. Let’s continue to work together towards positive change in our city.

Our Story

With the City of Joburg presenting numerous issues such as infrastructure problems, safety concerns, and lack of resources, and now the displaced people in the Parkhurst Bowling Club area something needed to be done. SOS Save our Spruit aims to assist Residents’ Associations (RA’s) to come together with a common goal – to unite against the challenges facing our communities.

One of the key realizations that has emerged from their collaboration is the need for IT skills in the distribution of information. In an age where technology plays a crucial role in communication and advocacy, the RA’s recognize the importance of harnessing digital tools to reach a wider audience and amplify their message. By leveraging SOS’s IT skills, we can effectively disseminate important updates, rally support, and engage with residents in a more efficient and impactful manner.

To further strengthen our reach, we have created a central website as a hub for information and resources. This website will serve as a one-stop destination for residents to access updates on important issues, progress and most importantly the announcements that impact residents in an easily digestible manner. By centralizing the efforts through a shared platform, we aim to foster collaboration among members and present a unified front in their advocacy efforts.
